Over 30 million children rely on the free school lunch program. These same children often fend for themselves through the summer to find food. Some do the unthinkable and turn to gangs and crime, making it less safe for others in the streets, all because of the pressure to succumb to the hunger in their bellies. This pandemic brings a new set of hunger issues to the youth. Ajalon came to us 3 years ago. She was experiencing low self esteem and was not getting the proper nutrition. Her mom saw the difference in her when she participated in the dance classes. She craved healthier food. Her esteem and grades soared. This year she maintained the AB honor roll and Dean’s list, because of donors like you.
Each year children like Ajalon both in rural and urban areas experience hunger and lack proper nutrition, which often becomes a precursor to health related problems like high blood pressure and diabetes. This year you can make a difference in the lives of these children. You help us give children the chance to be uniquely themselves exploring their own creativity in a secure environment. Children from various abilities develop their talents and eat nutritious meals and snacks that give them the energy to be the best they can be.
Your generosity is astounding. Last year we opened our doors to serve healthy meals to those less fortunate in all ability levels in the surrounding communities. We also supplied students with back to school necessities to propel them towards a successful year.
Because of gifts like yours children who otherwise would not have traveled out of their neighborhood enjoyed trips to the water park, zoo, Six Flags, and skating to name a few. They were also provided coaching in tennis, soccer and swimming. Our expenses increased amid COVID19.
